Of Course, Wavves’ V Helped Ryan Adams Fight Back From Meniere’s Disease

If you’re anything like me, you’ll say something inarticulately obnoxious like, “isn’t Wavves just the surfer bro equivalent to the Offspring?” I get it. Nathan Williams sings catchy Simple Plan type melodies over heavily distorted guitars. There’s a Drive-By Truckers production on a song about drinking too much. So surfer bro, man.

But sometimes my job entails sorting 500 songs under the nightcore genre. Yes, nightcore is recognizable today as a real genre, and I know more about it than I’d like to. So every couple of hours or so, I allow Beats 1 Radio to Top 40 me. And guess what: I don’t hit the skip button every fifteen minutes when Zane Lowe plays “Heavy Metal Detox”.

My friend also took me to their show at Irving Plaza this past month, and I’m not going to lie: I sang along.

So, Ryan, I’m with you on this one.
